The South Kaibab trail is one of our favorite hikes. The trail begins dramatically, as it winds down the first cliff face.As the trail descends, you will find yourself hiking along a ridge that provides excellent views. Your guide will have to drag you away from the breath taking scene at OOH-AWW point. It is truly incredible The hike will stop at Cedar Ridge, 1.5 miles / 2.4 kilometers down the canyon.
After lunch, and time to explore the area we begin the hike out. The South Kaibab is one of the only man-made trails in the park, and tends to be a bit steeper than it's neighbor , the Bright Angel. As all things in life, a little extra work gives a better pay off. The South Kaibab has amazing views of the Grand Canyon.
BE PREPARED!! This hike begins at 7000 ft/2133m in elevation, and drops 1140ft/347m. Even fit hikers have to catch their breath. If you plan this trip in the summer the months, brace yourself for heat. The South Kaibab provides very little shade. Arrive, dressed with a hat, sunscreen, and something to cover-up with (long sleeves, sarong) Your guide will carry extra water and snacks to get you out of the canyon.
Come with Around The Bend Adventures, and experience this great day hike. You can't see the view from OOH-AWW point standing on the rim or browsing in the gift shops. So get your hiking shoes on and lets go!!
